Mental Health and Wellbeing
Welcome to the Mental Health and Well Being section of our school website. At Thornton Hough Primary School we value the wellbeing of entire school community. We prioritise supporting our pupils to understand what wellbeing is and how to develop and maintain positive mental health.
At Thornton Hough Primary School we teach wellbeing through our carefully planned Personal, Social, Health and Economic curriculum (PSHE). Lessons are planned and designed to allow our children to understand, develop and look after their own mental health. PSHE is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. Mental health goes hand in hand with physical health and we encourage the children to look after both their bodies and their minds.
Just as with our physical health, everyone’s mental health has the potential to suffer from time to time. We offer our pupils different levels of support to promote positive mental health and wellbeing and to address any issues that may arise:
- Universal Support – This is designed to meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum, for example, our monthly Value and our PSHE curriculum.
- Additional Support – For those who may have short-term needs and those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as bereavement.
- Targeted Support - For pupils who need more differentiated support and resources or specific targeted interventions such as ELSA, Thumbs Up.
