Our Year 5 Football team after winning their first round Corgi Cup Match vs Thingwall Primary. Well Done!

We are very proud that PE and Sport have a significant profile across our school. The PE curriculum at Thornton Hough inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. A range of events and activities are planned each term to encourage pupils to compete in sport and other activities, building character and helping to embed values such as fairness and respect.

We follow the national curriculum for Physical Education which aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

In addition to weekly PE lessons, pupils are encouraged to take part in a wider range of extra curricular sporting activities offered throughout the school year for all age groups. These include weekly lunchtime clubs that are open to all pupils at no cost.

Please find below the National Curriculum for PE at Key Stages 1 and 2.
